Burnham-On-Sea’s Post Office is set to be refurbished in the New Year as it becomes a new main branch with longer opening hours, it has been announced this week.
The premises in Burnham’s Victoria Street will temporarily close for refurbishment on 7th January before re-opening on Thursday 19th January.
The new-look branch will offer a wide range of post office services with extended opening times.
Sue Whittall, Post Office Area Manager, said: “The chnages are underpinned by Government investment and will see up to 8,000 branches modernised and additional investment in over 3,000 community and outreach branches. Our aim is to create a more modern and convenient retail experience for customers that will include longer opening hours.”
“The changes in Burnham will result in a newly refurbished branch providing a modern open plan environment for customers, the same products and services, and longer opening hours.”
“There will be five serving positions. These will be a mixture of two screened, two open plan and a Post Office serving point for use at the retail counter, which is available during shop opening hours offering selected services.”
The new-look Burnham-On-Sea Post Office opening times will stay the same on weekdays, remaining 9am-5.30pm. Saturday opening will be extended from 9am-12.30pm to 9am-5.30pm. There will also be a Post Office service at a retail counter offering selected services from 8am-8pm Monday to Saturday and on Sundays from 8am-6pm as part of the new convenience store.
Burnham’s MP James Heappey welcomed the news last night, telling Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Post Office’s network transformation has threatened a number of post offices around the Wells constituency but in Burnham-On-Sea, this transformation is clearly very positive.”
“The Town’s branch will remain on its current site, continue to be operated by the existing Postmaster, and offer the full range of Post Office services.”
“It will do so from a more modern shop layout and over longer hours. The 8am to 8pm opening hours will be particularly welcome for those who are working or unable to get to the Town Centre during the working day.”
The branch will temporarily close for the work on Saturday 7th January 2017 at 12.30pm and re-open on Thursday 19th January 2017 at 1pm. Customers can use the nearby branch in Highbridge during the closure.
