A group of fundraisers in Burnham-On-Sea have raised over £3,000 for Cancer Research UK in memory of a lady who died earlier this year.
John Oatway from Burnham, who lost his beloved mum to Cancer, gathered at The Vapoury in Burnham town centre, along with nine supportive friends, to undergo head shaves and painful wax treatments to raise money.
A group of 150 plus people came along to witness the group brave the shaves and have their arm, leg, and even chest hair removed with hot wax!
The group’s target was to raise £800 but with the support of friends and family, they’ve already beaten their target four-fold. They have raised £3,200 with donations still flooding in.
John said: “Losing my mum in August after she lost a brave battle with Cancer was a truly heart-breaking experience. She was loved by everyone who met her and I wanted to do something in her memory as well as to raise money for Cancer Research UK. I am overwhelmed with the level of support and donations that we’ve received.”
He added: “Having my head shaved was no problem. Actually, it feels quite liberating but every time I look in the mirror, I just don’t recognise myself.”
