A holidaymaker was left in shock when her dog was the victim of an attack on Brean beach.
Karen Riste was walking along the beach last Friday with her daughter Ceri and their two terriers when one of their pets was set upon by a large black dog.
In the attack, her dog, which is called Dart, was badly bitten, which resulted in wide lacerations along his side.
The family took Dart to Blake Vets in Bridgwater where the injured dog had his wounds treated and stapled and a drain was fitted.
Karen says the black dog was dangerous as a man seen with it was attempting to put a muzzle on him. However, the black dog escaped from the man and pounced on Dart, biting his rear left side above his hind leg.
She says the man ran after him and tried to restrain him but the dog initially wouldn’t let go. Eventually, the man managed to get his dog off by tackling him.
Dart was left covered in blood and suffered a hole in his side and a deep laceration to his back.
Karen, who lives in Caerphilly, Wales, has urged other pet owners to take extra care when walking their dogs on the beach.
