Homes in Sedgemoor wins 30-year contract to run council properties

-

Homes in Sedgemoor has been awarded a long-term contract to manage Sedgemoor District Council’s 4,200 council homes – including those in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge.

Sedgemoor District Council’s Executive Committee has this week approved a new agreement, which will run for 30 years.

The new Management Agreement is the culmination of a ‘tenant led housing options review’ undertaken during 2013, which concluded that Homes in Sedgemoor should remain as the managing agent for the council’s housing stock for the longer term.

In addition to the current housing services provided, the new agreement also provides the necessary flexibilities for Homes in Sedgemoor to be able to build and manage additional properties, deliver extra services and to work more closely with the council to create savings where possible.

The leader of Sedgemoor District Council, Councillor Duncan McGinty, said he is pleased that Homes in Sedgemoor will continue to manage the council’s housing stock.

“Tenant’s views have been central to the review process and it was clear from the outset that they wanted Homes in Sedgemoor to continue the management of their homes,” he said.

“Now the new Management Agreement is in place the council is very much looking forward to working with Homes in Sedgemoor and tenants in the continuation of what has been a genuine partnership, to deliver more council homes and additional services for our tenants.”

Dawn Lang, Chief Executive of Homes in Sedgemoor, right, added: “This process has truly taken on board the views of tenants and it is a really positive outcome for them.”

“The new Management Agreement provides us with a sound basis on which to move forward and is absolutely great news for tenants and staff.”

Since being established in 2007, Homes in Sedgemoor has improved the area’s housing services and, as a result, it was able to access £25m of government funding in 2011 to further improve council homes in the area.

Since that time, Homes in Sedgemoor has improved over 3,000 properties and will complete the Decent Homes Programme later this year, six months ahead of schedule.

In addition, Homes in Sedgemoor has recently been shortlisted for a National Housing Federation award to recognise the positive work they do with helping to get young people into employment.

Homes in Sedgemoor is an ‘arms length management organisation’ (ALMO) which was set up in 2007 to manage Sedgemoor District Council’s 4,200 homes.
