North Pole explorers in training on beaches in Burnham-On-Sea area

-

A group of arctic explorers who are preparing for an expedition to the North Pole have been training on beaches in the Burnham-On-Sea area over the past week.

Rod Minns, Brian Amos and Alex Parker (pictured) have been striding along the beach between Brean and Burnham, pulling heavy tyres behind them to build up their strength.

The trio are part of a six man team who intend to trek to the North Pole next Spring to try and raise £250,000 for charity.

Brian told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We do get some strange looks, but the beaches here are ideal for our training.”

“They’re flat and the sand friction is perfect for pulling tyres behind us and building up our strength to pull sleds across the snow and ice.”

The group – called Six Ordinary Men Doing Extraordinary Things – are funding the expedition themselves in order to maximise the amount they raise for Sparks, a children’s medical research charity. To find out more, click here.
