A new event re-enacting the traditional ‘beating of the bounds’ was held in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (April 26th).
Over 20 people, including the town crier, took part in the historical re-enactment of the custom where the parish boundaries are walked by local people.
The event started at St Andrew’s Church and saw the group take part in a 90-minute walk along part of the parish boundary.
“We walked from the church along the beach and up to St Christopher’s Way then headed along Berrow Road and back towards Burnham, passing through the High Street and returning to the church via The Esplanade,” said organiser Gaynor Brown.
“Instead of mummers, we had our own youth groups dressed in dragon custumes to create monsters to accost the beaters!”
She added: “It was a well-supported event and we aim to run it again next year with a longer walk and more costumes – the date is already set as April 25th 2015.”
