Judges from the annual Britain In Bloom competition visited Burnham-On-Sea on Tuesday (July 15th) and gave an upbeat assessment of the town.
Organisers from the Highbridge and Burnham in Bloom Committee showed the judges around parks, businesses and private gardens during the formal visit to the town.
Richard Young, Secretary of the Highbridge and Burnham in Bloom Committee, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The judges were very impressed with this year’s entry.”
“One of the judges, Terry Porter, said that there was a marked improvement on last year and congratulated members of the Bloom committee and staff of Sedgemoor District Council and the Friends of Apex Park group for all their hard work over the past year.”
“It was evident that the various parties working in partnership had the desired effect. A group of local residents must also be thanked for volunteering to remove litter from key areas before the judges visit.”
The judges were also impressed with the displays at Home Farm, Kathleen Chambers Residential Home and St Joseph’s School, together with the many private gardens viewed during their tour of the town.
The results of the South West in Bloom competitions will be announced at a presentation event in Plymouth on Thursday 18th September.
The judges’ formal comments will be available shortly afterwards. Last year, Burnham peformed poorly and organisers are therefore understandably keen to reverse the fortunes.
