A group of Burnham-On-Sea residents has enjoyed a Christmas meal and party this week thanks to the efforts of the team at Somerset Care.
The third annual event saw a lunch held for the care firm’s clients at the Windmill Restaurant in Edithmead, organised by Janine Stent, a Burnham community care worker.
Janine told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We normally organise a buffet, but decided that since some don’t all get a proper Christmas dinner, we’d aim for a two-course traditional Christmas lunch this year! All agreed the food was outstanding.”
The event was organised with funds raised by Janine plus money donated by Burnham Lions, Brent Engineering, Alan Chillingworth and Adam Grindrod with the support of many others, including Moose International and John Chinn from Burnham’s Masonic Lodge.
The clients also received Christmas gift bags containing toiletries, chocolates, teddy bears and handmade calendars. It comes after Janine’s sister, Julie, put out an appeal for gift donations.
Janine said: “Julie ran her socks off picking stuff up for me from people who kindly made donations. All the items were used for presents and free raffle prizes, and any left over have gone out to our housebound clients for Christmas.”
“Asda had a trolley at the front of its store for donations of chocolates, biscuits and other items. The Burnham-On-Sea Lions also attended on the day to help serve meals and Santa even put in a special appearance, which everybody loved.”
She added: “All in all, it was an absolutely wonderful party and all the clients said how much they had enjoyed themselves. I would personally would like to thank everyone for supporting me financially and helping on the day. I can’t thank the Lions and my family enough for all the help they gave me.”
