An exhausted gannet has been released from the top of Brean Down this week after being nursed back to good health by animal rescuers.
The injured bird was spotted in a poor condition on a nearby beach last Friday, having been blown ashore by unseasonally strong winds.
A walker alerted East Huntspill based wildlife rescue centre Secret World, who collected the bird and treated him during the weekend before releasing him from the summit of Brean Down, as pictured here.
Secret World’s Pauline Kidner told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The bird was found in an exhuasted state on the beach at Weston.”
“We fed him sardines to build him up again and, once he was keeping his weight and water-proofed again, we were keen to release him back to the sea.”
Our photos show Secret World’s Simon Kidner releasing the bird from Brean Down. Burnham-based rescue charity BARB was on standby to help should the bird have come down in the sea or on the mudflats.
