New road junction improvements are among the local highways projects completed by Somerset County Council this year through its Small Improvement Schemes (SiS) programme.
The scheme – which has enabled road safety changes to go ahead in Burnham-On-Sea’s Stoddens Road in recent years – was established by the County Council to improve roads and road safety across the county in response to concerns raised by local communities.
New pedestrian crossings, off-road cycle links and schemes to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety are just some of the projects across Somerset. The schemes completed so far this year include at junction improvements in Brean Road/Rectory Way in Lympsham.
Cllr David Fothergill, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet member for Highways, said: “We work very closely with our communities to develop practical solutions to their problems – whether that’s speeding traffic or difficulties in crossing the road.”
“Already this year we’ve helped children get to school safely, improved cycle links and done a great deal to make our roads safer.”
“Each one of these schemes represents a huge amount of work from initial request to delivery and it’s fantastic to see just how many we’ve been able to complete this year – with more to follow.”
