Work to complete Burnham-On-Sea’s £360,000 Marine Cove gardens restoration project re-started on Monday (October 10th) following last month’s shock news that the main building contractor overseeing the work had gone into administration.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first revealed here that building company St Blaise had called in administrators, causing the project to be placed on hold for several weeks.
Sedgemoor District Council has since appointed new contractors to ensure the remaining work is completed.
Harley Cook, Sedgemoor’s Parks and Open Spaces Officer, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We have appointed a new contractor to finalise the 5% of work that is remaining and I hope it can all be completed in 2-3 weeks, weather permitting.”
“The final work includes painting and decorating the north shelter, replacing the sun dial, completing the water features and finalising electrical work.”
Mr Cook added that is “very hopeful” that the new-look gardens will re-open to the public before the end of the year.
The £360,000 refurbishment project – which is being part-funded with £344,200 from the Heritage Lottery Fund – includes landscaping, walls, fencing, lighting, paving, seating and water features.
