11th hour offer of new venue saves Burnham carnival club becoming ‘homeless’

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club has been saved from becoming ‘homeless’ at the 11th hour after finding a new location to build its cart.

As first reported here, the club recently issued an urgent appeal to find a new site after its former home was put up for sale.

No new home was found and the club – which is due to celebrate its 40th anniversary this year – last week said its entry into this year’s procession was in doubt.

However, Hillview Chairman Mark Bishop told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “I am delighted to say that we’ve been offered a new site at Woodberry Brothers in Highbridge and our cart has been moved there this week.”

“Building our entry is now getting underway and it’s full steam ahead for us.”

He added: “It’s such a massive relief to have a new home for the club and we cannot thank the Woodberry family enough – they have always been fantastic supporters over the years and we’re very grateful to them for once again coming forward to give us a new home.”

Mark said that the club’s members are now looking forward to producing a stunning entry in their 40th anniversary year. “We have a great team of volunteers ready to help and our fundraising has been going well so we’re hoping to build a really good cart.”
