Two in court after £10,000 of vandalism in Burnham’s Marine Cove

-

Two men have appeared in court charged with criminal damage following £10,000 of vandalism in Burnham-On-Sea’s Marine Cove gardens last October.

A 20-year-old man from Highbridge and a 19-year-old man from Burnham-On-Sea were charged with criminal damage following the incident on October 28th last year.

They appeared at Taunton Crown Court and the case was adjourned for a trial later this Spring.

During the incident – which occurred at around 1am on October 28th – two light columns were toppled, two timber benches were ripped from their ground fixings and thrown into the pool, and the centrepiece cherub in the pool was also damaged.

The sundial was also pushed over and the dial removed from its plinth while a heritage lantern was shattered on its standing light column, and two tiers of stone paving were torn from the steps leading to the lion’s fountain.

Sedgemoor District Council, which oversees the gardens, worked with a team of contractors to get all the damage repaired.
