Local astronomy lecturer Greg Dye-Hodge Beardsley captured this image of the partial eclipse of the sun through from Burnham seafront on Friday morning (August 1st).
“The conditions were very good to view today’s partial eclipse,” Greg, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The eclipse started at 9.30am, the mid period was 10.14am, and the finish was 11.00am. The area of the sun’s disc covered was around 11.5 per cent,” he added.
Greg used a six million pixel digital camera fitted with a Baeder film solar filter to capture the image. Using this specialist equipment, it was perfectly safe for him to watch the eclipse.
He added that those who missed Friday’s spectacle will be able to view a partial eclipse of the moon on the evening of 16th August, weather permitting, when the first contact of the Earth’s shadow will be at 8.36pm. The peak of the eclipse will be at 10.11pm.
