A shop assistant was left shaken after a smash-and-grab robbery at a Burnham-On-Sea shop yesterday evening (Friday, May 9th).
Cash was stolen during the incident at Sweet Shack in the High Street shortly before 5pm, just as the shop was preparing to close for the day.
Shop owner Kirstie Isom told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A man in his late teens or early 20s entered the shop and threatened our assistant. He then smashed the till to gain access to it, grabbed a quantity of cash and ran off.”
“It all happened very quickly – we are all shocked that this has happened and I’m just relieved that no-one has been hurt. I would urge shop keepers in the area to be wary and take extra security measures.”
Police said they were called to the confectionery shop at the southern end of the High Street at 4.50pm when the alarm was raised.
Police scientific investigators were at the scene for several hours, taking fingerprints and gathering other evidence left following the robbery.
