Olympic diver joins Mayor at official shop opening in Burnham

-

A former Olympic diver joined Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor in officially opening a new shop in the town on Monday afternoon (August 4th).

Tony Ally, three-time Olympic and Commonwealth champion and fitness coach for the British diving squad, opened The Hearing Room in Victoria Street alongside Mayor Peter Clayton and the new shop’s staff.

Tony, who shot to fame in 1999 by becoming the first British diver ever to win a European Championship Gold medal, suffers from a hearing ailment and explained how his life has been transformed by the use of hearing aids.

“I hear very little without them and certainly could not have been so successful in my sporting career. The technology has gone from strength to strength in recent years and has been a real life-saver for me,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Tony competed in three Olympic Games in Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 and has recently been mentoring and coaching diving hopefuls for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which starts later this week.
