More than 200 youngsters from sea cadet units across Somerset and Dorset marched through Burnham-On-Sea today (Sunday, October 16th) to celebrate Trafalgar Day.
The parade is rotated around the units of the two counties each year, so only comes to Burnham once every eight years.
Crowds of onlookers watched the procession wend its way from the Pier Street car park along the seafront to St Andrew’s Church where a short service was held.
This was followed by a parade back to Morrisons, via Burnham High Street, with a salute from the parade outside the Ritz by Burnham’s Mayor Cllr Michael Clarke, Mayoress Maria Clarke, Burnham’s MP Tessa Munt and Sea Cadets’ District Officer, Lieutenant Commander Steve Coles.
Burnham’s Mayor told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a wonderful spectacle – and I full of admiration for all the cadets. They were very well presented and it was great for Burnham that the parade was held in the town. It was a very memorable afternoon.”
