Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club’s ‘try a sail’ day cancelled

-

The forceast of bad weather for Saturday (August 9th) has prompted Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club to cancel its ‘try a sail’ day.

Ken Sowden, Burnham Sailing Club Vice Commodore and Sailing Master, told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Friday evening: “I am afraid that winds are predicted force 5 – 7 in our area on Saturday and I have decided that it would not be safe to be taking members of the public in and out of the River Brue in those conditions.”

“We are therefore cancelling this individual Regatta event, rather than postponing it, because sadly there are no other free slots on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, Burnham-On-Sea Lions Club will also decide on Saturday morning whether its duck race – which is due to be held in the River Brue from the Clyce to the Yacht Club – will be postponed because of the forecast bad weather.

“The race is currently scheduled to proceed as planned at 1pm, but we will review this early on Saturday,” organiser John Hodgson told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Friday evening.

The Sailing Club’s pig roast planned for Saturday evening will go ahead as planned, as will Burnham’s annual ESCAPE Day on the seafront.
