Poor growing weather was blamed for a reduction in the number of entries at Burnham-On-Sea & District Horticultural Society’s 41st annual show on Sunday (August 10th).
The two-day event was held at Sanders Garden World at Brent Knoll and featured ten sections and 133 classes.
The sections in which competitors were invited to enter included amateur photography, pot plants, flowers, wines, fruit, vegetables, floral art, junior, domestic, handicraft, such as hand-made cards, crochet and knitted items and cross stitch.
“We had around 450 entries from 70 exhibitors, which was slightly down on last year due largely to the weather,” Bert Sone, a member of Burnham-On-Sea & District Horticultural Society, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The wet weather has hit the growing season and the number of flower and vegetable entries was down as a result, but the overall standard was very good again.”
Among the winners of this year’s event were Monica Huntley for the best exhibit in the flower classes and Mr Sone, who won the trophy for the most points in the vegetable classes (both pictured above).
