Network Rail and Sedgemoor District Council have resolved a dispute over who is responsible for repairing a damaged manhole outside Highbridge Railway Station.
Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report last month that a damaged manhole on the green in the station car park had been left in a dangerous state, with only a flimsy piece of wood left over the top, after the normal concrete lid shattered when the manhole structure had shifted.
But British Telecom, Sedgemoor District Council and Network Rail could not initially agree on who was responsible for repairing the manhole, leaving residents and councillors frustrated.
But following pressure from local councillor Joe Leach, pictured, and the district council, the matter has been resolved and Network Rail has made permanent repairs.
Claire Faun, Corporate Relations Manager at Sedgemoor District Council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday (August 12th): “I can confirm that a repair has been carried out to the manhole just outside of Highbridge Station.”
“SDC stepped in to do a temporary repair whilst Network Rail got themselves organised to do the necessary work. The manhole carries cables to the railway. It was persistant contact from SDC that speeded up the process.”
Cllr Leach thanked Cllr Duncan McGinty, leader of Sedgemoor District Council, for his help in resolving the matter along with local resident Roger Keen.
