-

Brian Price from British Transport Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “At 3.41pm on Tuesday 25th October, BTP and Avon and Somerset officers responded to a report from a member of Network Rail staff of a body being found lineside at Dunball foot crossing near Bridgwater.”

“The body of a woman was found about 150 yards from the crossing and the death is currently being treated as unexplained, although it is not believed she has been struck by a train.”

He addded: “Enquiries are continuing to establish the identity of the woman and the full circumstances surrounding her death. The lines were blocked in the area and this caused some disruption to services.”

“The body was recovered and the lines handed back at 10.21pm on Tuesday 25 October. A post mortem examination is scheduled for today (Wednesday, 26 October). The scene was preserved overnight so a daylight search of the area can be carried out today.”

Train services through Highbridge Railway Station re-started early today (Wednesday, October 26th).

Services had been suspended yesterday evening after police were called to the scene two miles north of Bridgwater.

Police have not given any further information about the identity of the person while their investigation continues.
