Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow have this week been presented with sought-after Seaside Awards by national campaign group Keep Britain Tidy.
The scheme shines the spotlight on the best beaches across England that achieve the highest standards of facilities and cleanliness.
Sedgemoor District Council, which oversees two beaches, welcomed the news and its Chairman, Cllr Peter Downing, formally raised the new award flags during a ceremony on Tuesday morning (May 20th) in Burnham, pictured here.
Upon raising the flag, he told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am so pleased that the hard work by all areas of the holiday industry has paid dividends and both Burnham and Berrow Beaches have been awarded a Seaside Award.”
“The flag heralds a sure sign to visitors, right from the very start of the season, of the diversity and quality of the beach.”
“Our own resort manager has a three year action plan to continuously improve what is on hand for residents and visitors to the beach.”
“All sorts of people and organisations work together, none so much as Sedgemoor’s Clean Surroundings and beach staff, to make sure that a visit to our beaches is an enjoyable day out.”
The Seaside Award replaces the Quality Coast Award, which was introduced by Keep Britain Tidy in 2007.
