Rail lines body confirmed as missing Highbridge pensioner

-

The body of a woman who was found near railway tracks earlier this week was formally identified on Friday (October 28th) as missing Highbridge woman Edith Joan Batten.

The 79 year-old was discovered by railway staff at Dunball foot crossing, between Highbridge and Bridgwater, on Tuesday following a huge search operation.

British Transport Police spokesman Brian Price told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Friday: “I can confirm that the woman found dead next to the railway line at Dunball foot crossing on 25th October has been formally identified as Edith Joan Batten, aged 79, from Highbridge.”

“Her death is being treated as non-suspicious and a file is being prepared for the Coroner.”

Mrs Batten was found 150 yards from the crossing on Tuesday and British Transport Police and Avon and Somerset officers attended the scene.

A huge search operation was launched to find her, involving the police helicopter, dogs, Coastguards and crews from BARB (Burnham Area Rescue Boat), the RNLI and Avon Search and Rescue.
