Burnham-On-Sea’s new-look Post Office opened on Thursday (January 19th) as it became a new main branch with longer opening hours and a brand new convenience store.
The new-look branch in Burnham’s Victoria Street now offers a wide range of extra post office services and has extended opening times.
“These are exciting changes for the post office – it’s been a significant upgrade that’s cost over £70,000 – and it’s great to see Burnham-On-Sea getting a main branch,” said manager Malav Desai.
“Alongside the post office is a new convenience store within the building – which is a franchise of Select Convenience – offering a full range of food, drink and convenience products plus National Lottery tickets.”
The new-look Burnham-On-Sea Post Office opening times will stay the same on weekdays, remaining 9am-5.30pm, but Saturday opening will be extended from 9am-12.30pm to 9am-5.30pm. There will also be a Post Office service at a retail counter, offering selected services, from 8am-8pm Monday to Saturday and on Sundays from 8am-6pm.
He added that the store has also applied for an alcohol license and hopes to sell alcohol soon.
Today’s opening at 1pm comes after a two-week closure for a major re-fit and upgrade.
Sue Whittall, Post Office Area Manager, said: “The changes are underpinned by Government investment and will see up to 8,000 branches modernised and additional investment in over 3,000 community and outreach branches. Our aim is to create a more modern and convenient retail experience for customers that will include longer opening hours.”
“The changes in Burnham have resulted in a newly refurbished branch, providing a modern open plan environment for customers, the same products and services, and longer opening hours.”
“There are now five serving positions – a mixture of two screened, two open plan and a Post Office serving point for use at the retail counter, which is available during shop opening hours offering selected services.”
