New warning after two cars are submerged by incoming tide at Brean

-

A fresh warning has been issued to motorists about checking tide times if they park on beaches in the Burnham-On-Sea area after TWO vehicles got stranded during last night’s high tide.

The cars became submerged by the tide at Brean, as pictured here, after their owners had wandered off without checking the time or height of the tide.

A Ford Focus owned by Paul Davies from Redditch in the West Midlands got into difficulty at Brean Cove. “We went for a walk on Brean Down after parking the car on the beach and I thought we had plenty of time.”

“It was a heart-stopping moment when we looked down from the top of the Down and saw the car completely surrounded by the sea. I ran down and we managed to get the car started and out of the sea in the nick of time.”

And a Bristol family also watched helplessly after their Ford Mondeo, pictured here, also got stuck in the incoming tide at Brean on Monday evening.

Brean beach warden Dave Furber told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We do urge drivers to check the tide times and the heights when they drive onto the beach – there are warning signs here.”
