Burnham-On-Sea FolkFest 2008 hailed as ‘best yet’ by organisers

-

Organisers of Burnham-On-Sea’s annual FolkFest have hailed this year’s event the ‘best ever’ after huge crowds flocked into the town to watch 100 hours of live music over the weekend.

The three-day event opened on Friday evening when Dragonsfly took to the stage at the Ritz Social Club in front of around 200 people to perform the opening gig of the popular festival.

The event continued on Saturday in eight pubs, clubs and other venues across the town with over 100 hours of free, live entertainment from over 60 groups and musicians.

There also was clog and morris dancing, a craft fair in the centre of the town, childrens’ entertainment, workshops and other activities.

The festival, now in its third year, came to a climax on Sunday afternoon (August 31st) with the popular ‘Folk in the Park’ event in Burnham’s Manor Gardens, featuring six hours of music and performers including the Sheelanagig, Ember (pictured above), Bag of Rats, Phil King and the Tiger Feet Appalachian Dancers.

Graham Cook, one of the event’s organisers, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This year’s event has definitely been our best yet with great music throughout the weekend bringing big crowds into the town. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!”
