A dozen traders will be selling a wide range of locally-grown food when Burnham-On-Sea’s monthly farmers market returns to the town today (Friday, May 30th).
The market will be held in the High Street from 9am-2pm with stalls offering local produce including pork, game, beef, vegetables, cakes, cheese, pies, bakery items and milk.
Market co-ordinator Louise Hall said: “It’s half term this week, so a great opportunity to bring along the children to meet our farmers and food producers and get them interested in how food is produced locally.”
“Last month the Red Chilli Shop made their debut when they brought along their charcoal-fuelled steam engine oven which attracted a lot of attention and which children will love – plus his tasty hot food which sold out last month!”
“He’ll be back again as will our other new stall Country Markets who work cooperatively to produce an array of jams and chutneys, fruit curds, marmalades, sauces, syrups and cordials – enough choice to cover all tastes.”
“Meanwhile, Wookey Farm are expanding their range and will have some of their new goats cream alongside their usual goats milk, cheeses and meats.”
Friday’s stalls include: Ellises Farm – fresh pork plus salami and air dried hams; G M Country Sports – game in season plus venison year round; Country Markets – a full range of preserves; Jan Bakes – traditional cakes with gluten free options; In Clover – high quality and unusual cottage garden perennials and willow planters; Moorland Farm – Aberdeen Angus beef from Axbridge; Portbridge Farm – vegetables; Taylors Traditional Bakers – 3rd generation bakers with a great range; Red Chilli Shop – home made chilli sauces and hot food on the day; Times Past Cheese Dairy – tasty range of flavoured cheeses and traditional cheddars; Humble Pie Co – delicious locally made pies; and Wookey Farm – goats milk, cheese, cream and meat.
