These were the scenes at Rooksbridge, near Burnham-On-Sea, on Wednesday (September 3rd) as workmen from Bristol Water completed repairs to a burst water main that cut supplies to thousands of homes across the Burnham area.

The problems first emerged during the early hours of the morning when a field near Rooksbridge began to get waterlogged as water escaped from an 18 inch diameter pipe supplying water between Cheddar and Burnham.

“Repairing the pipe was made more difficult by the location of the mains, in a field next to a ditch at Rooksbridge,” Jeremy Williams, spokesman for Bristol Water, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

He added that a deep hole had to be dug in the field, as pictured, to get to the mains and repair it. The digger was later used to help pull several vehicles from the muddy field after they got stuck.
