Plans to create a new Neighbourhood Plan in the Burnham and Highbridge Area have been given a £7,000 funding boost.
It follows a successful application for a grant to Locality, an organisation used by the government to support community initiatives.
The application had been put together by town councillor Phil Harvey with the help of a small group.
“The grant will fund many of the activities of the Steering Group in the remainder of this year and is in addition to the £20,000 already received from the government as a ‘pathfinder grant’,” Cllr Harvey told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
He added that the formal application has now been made by the Town Council to Sedgemoor District Council for designation of the area to be covered by the Neighbourhood Plan.
“With the agreement of both Burnham and Highbridge Town Council and Burnham Without Parish Council, it will be the whole of the Town area plus that part of the Burnham Without Parish to the west of the M5.”
The next meeting of the Neighbourhood Plan working group is Thursday 12th June, 7pm, at the Town Council offices.
Now that a constitution has been agreed, together with working arrangements with the Town Council, this meeting will mark the transition from a working group into a formal Steering Group with elected officers. It will also mark the beginning of the process of assembling evidence, consulting people and, eventually, drawing up the plan itself.
