These impressive photos show the vast scale of Wessex Water’s work to improve Burnham-On-Sea’s sea water quality.
Wessex Water is digging very deep at the sewage pumping station in Bristol Road, Bridgwater to boost river water quality in Bridgwater – which is one of 12 schemes that form part of a £39million project to boost the sea water quality in Burnham-On-Sea.
Storage capacity in the sewerage network is being increased, while new ultraviolet treatment and monitoring equipment has already been installed at Highbridge sewage pumping station and will also shortly be provided at the Cannington treatment works.
Lucy George, assistant project manager and implementation engineer for the scheme, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We wanted to give residents a glimpse behind the scenes at Bristol Road and hopefully these images do just that.”
“Works are progressing well, with the below-ground shaft complete, and our mission to upgrade sewerage infrastructure to help improve Burnham’s bathing water is on track.”
Wessex Water’s project to improve Burnham Jetty bathing water includes work at Highbridge and Sloway Lane pumping stations, plus Combwich and Dunball sewage treatment works.
Further south, work is due to start soon at Cannington sewage treatment works and they are on site at Bristol Road, Chilton Street, East Quay, West Quay, Blake Gardens, Colley Lane and Taunton Road in Bridgwater. The project is due to be completed in 2018.
