New Apex Park children sessions will promote outdoor play

-

Children aged five and over in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge are being encouraged to venture outside during a series of outdoor activity play sessions.

The ‘Play Rangers’ sessions will help children have fun outdoors and join in activities such as sports, den building and other games.

Sedgemoor District Council is operating the scheme with funding from the Big Lottery while The Children’s Society, in conjunction with Barnardos South West, will manage the service.

The first taster session will be held at Highbridge’s Apex Park, next to the skate park, on Wednesday 24th September from 4-6pm and then from October 1st, the sessions will become weekly and be held at the same time and on the same day.

“Sedgemoor District Council has a duty to increase participation in PE and sport and to tackle obesity in young children along with other government agencies under the Local Area Agreement themes,” council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

She added that parents will still be responsible for their children whilst they are at Play Rangers sessions and they are welcome to attend the sessions with their children.
