RNLI lifeguards will be keeping beaches in Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow safe from early in July.
The team will go on duty from July 5th for the whole summer holiday season and in preparation, a new temporary unit has been constructed on Burnham’s Esplanade this week for the lifeguards, pictured above.
It is located adjacent to the jetty, and a second unit is in place at Berrow, right. Both units will be removed at the end of the season.
Sedgemoor District Council has provided highly-trained lifeguards at Burnham for many years. In 2013, the RNLI began providing lifeguarding services at both beaches.
The council’s own staff will continue to carry out other beach warden duties, and area trained to the Royal Life Saving Society ‘Beach Safety Wardens’ standard.
Phil Hill, RNLI Lifeguard Manager for the area, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our lifeguard team is very much looking forward to returning to the beaches for the summer season.”
“We encourage people heading to the coast to visit an RNLI lifeguarded beach where our team of highly professional lifeguards will be on hand to assist people; and swim between the red and yellow flags which marks out the safest swim zone on the beach. Our lifeguards are also there to offer advice, so please speak with them to find out the local dangers, tide times and conditions.”
