Customers visiting a Burnham-On-Sea hearing centre will be greeted by staff wearing a selection of comedy ears in a bid to highlight Tinnitus Awareness Week between Monday 6th February and Sunday 12th February.
The team at Specsavers in Burnham will be donning the funny ears throughout the week and people who suffer from tinnitus will be invited to come in to the store to get help and advice about the condition. Hearing aid audiologists Angie Bull and Sai Rama will be on hand throughout the week to answer any questions.
Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the absence of any corresponding external sound. The condition affects around 30% of people at some point in their lives but around 10% will live with it permanently.
“We’re keen to try and raise awareness as it’s still somewhat misunderstood and there are ways to limit its impact. Information will be available on how hearing aids can help so if you suffer from the condition, please do come and see us,” Angie told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The store will also be fundraising by running a sweepstake game and a pin the ear on the earring competition, with all money going to the British Tinnitus Association.
“The aim of this week is to raise awareness of the condition and the services we provide,” store director Rama Venkat told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The theme of this year is Together for Tinnitus which seems to fit perfectly with what we are doing; trying to provide help and support for local people who are struggling to overcome the effects of the illness.”
