Public meeting to be held in Burnham to debate Hinkley Point expansion

-

A public meeting is to be held in Burnham-On-Sea next month to give residents the chance to quiz power bosses about controversial plans to extend Hinkley Point nuclear power station.

The meeting will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday October 16th in the town’s Princess Hall when bosses will discuss the possible construction of a new nuclear reactor at Hinkley Point in addition to addressing any fears about the scheme.

A British Energy spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com that a series of six public meetings is to be held across our area next month to give residents a chance to have their say. Other meetings will be held in Stogursey, Nether Stowey, Cannington, Bridgwater and Combwich.

“This will be the public’s chance to influence what happens at Hinkley Point,” said the spokeswoman.

Those who would like to attend should register in advance by submitting their name and contact details by email to mail@hinkleynewbuild.co.uk

It comes as British Energy, the UK’s main nuclear power generator, was officially bought by French energy group EDF on Wednesday (September 24th) in a £12.4bn deal that will kick-start government plans for a new generation of atomic plants.
