A worried resident who lives next to Highbridge’s Asda roundabout says her home has been damaged FIVE times in five years by car crashes – and is calling for new road safety measures.
A BMW demolished a wall in the latest incident at the end of January and did not stop before speeding away.
Concerned resident Rachel Banwell, pictured below, says it comes after four other collisions where cars have overturned and slammed into walls.
Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, she said: “So many motorists take the roundabout here too quickly and have accidents. My wall is regularly knocked down and we just hope that nothing more serious happens.”
“My wall is in bits again and had only been up a few months since the last crash.”
“We have lorries going past throughout the night at very fast speeds – if a sports car can do this to my wall what could a lorry do? It scares me to think.”
She added: “In the five years we’ve been here there have been five crashes that I know about – it greatly upsets and worries us. We are wondering why the council has done nothing about it.”
Rachel says she would like to see new safety measures introduced at the roundabout.
“I’d like cameras to be installed along this stretch to reduce speeds, along with more measures to make it safer – it worries me that we’ll see a serious accident here.”
Highbridge town councillor John Parkes told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week he has taken up the matter with Somerset County Council.
“I am lobbying the County Council to get something done here to improve safety,” he said.
