Highbridge residents evacuated after electrical fire at flats complex

-

Residents at a block of flats in Highbridge were evacuated after a fire in the property on Sunday evening (September 28th).

One resident was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation following the blaze at Charlotte Court in the Highbridge Quay development at 6.45pm.

Two ambulances and two fire engines from Burnham-On-Sea were called to the scene, as pictured here, after a fire broke out in an electrical switch box.

Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This was caused by a fire in an airing cupboard.”

“Attempts had been made by the occupiers to extinguish the fire using water and towels.”

He added: “One female casualty suffered from smoke inhalation and received oyxgen therapy.”

“There was 90 per cent damage to the consumer unit, 50 per cent damage to the airing cupboard, and 25 per cent smoke damage.”

The residents were able to return to their homes later in the evening.
