Burnham-On-Sea service marks award of Legion’s 75 year pennant

-

The Burnham-On-Sea branch of the Royal British Legion held a special service of dedication on Sunday afternoon (October 5th) to commemorate the branch’s award of a 75-year pennant.

Burnham-On-Sea’s MP, David Heathcoat-Amory, and Mayor Peter Burridge-Clayton were among the guests at St Andrew’s Church.

The Legion’s Bob Northcombe explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The branch in Burnham is actually 87 years old but we recently realised that a 75 year pennant had not been added to our standard – probably because it had been overlooked – and we wanted to rectify this.”

“We applied to the Legion’s headquarters in London and have recently been awarded the pennant, which was formally accepted during Sunday afternoon’s service.”

The pennant, a blue streamer bearing the dates of the 75th anniversary, is pictured (top) being held by President Jim Flockton alongside standard bearer Tony Moor and the vicar of St Andrew’s Church, Reverened Graham Witts. Also pictured are MP David Heathcoat-Amory, and the town’s Mayor and Mayoress, plus members of the British Legion.
