11,000 homes across Burnham-On-Sea plunged into the dark

-

Thousands of homes across Burnham-On-Sea were briefly plunged into the dark on Monday evening (October 6th) after a power cut.

A total of 11,000 homes in the town suffered two short power cuts at around 7.20pm – each lasting around three seconds – following a high voltage fault.

A spokesman for Western Power Distribution told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are investigating a 33,000 volt fault which led to supplies being cut to 11,000 homes across Burnham-On-Sea.”

“There were two brief dips of around three seconds while the alternate power circuit automatically kicked in.”

“All those homes affected were quickly moved onto our back-up supply to avoid any major inconvenience.”

He added that it was not clear what had caused the problem. Among those affected by the cut were Burnham and Highbridge Town Councillors, who were in the middle of their monthly meeting when the lights cut out.
