A quiet cul-de-sac in Burnham-On-Sea which has been transformed into a spectacular winter wonderland with more than 100,000 fairy lights will be illuminated for Christmas tonight (Thursday, December 1st).
A special ceremony will be held in Trinity Close at 7pm, when the six families living there will switch on their display, which have been creating for 15 years in order to raise money for local charities.
A choir from Highbridge-based performing arts group Curtain Call will perform a line-up of Christmas carols, and free mince pies and mulled wine will be handed out to spectators.
Resident Nick Gardner told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Every year the display is different because we all add to the display to ensure it’s the best yet.”
The tradition was started by Nick and his wife Hazel, along with neighbours Chris Woodberry and his late wife Christine.
The display will run up to January 6th and this year money is going to BARB (Burnham Area Rescue Boat) and PETAL, the Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust which helps local cancer hospices.
“We want lots of people over the entire festive period to come and see us and help raise a good sum for charity – that’s the reason for doing it,” added Nick.
