A film crew from the BBC’s Blue Peter children’s programme joined more than 400 people watching the official switch-on of a huge fundraising Christmas lights display in Burnham-On-Sea on Thursday night (December 1st).
The residents of Trinity Close have transformed their quiet cul-de-sac into a spectacular winter wonderland with more than 100,000 fairy lights for a 15th year.
A large crowd turned out to watch the six families switch on their display, which is this year raising money for two local charities.
After the switch-on, an entertaining musical programme of Christmas songs was performed by members of Burnham’s Curtain Call School Of Performing Arts, as pictured here.
BBC’s Blue Peter has been filming a segment for an upcoming episode about the work of the Gardner family in preparing their illuminations as part of the display.
The homes are decorated top to bottom in thousands of lights, including some low-energy bulbs, and the display is now open to the public from 4-10pm each night until January 6th.
The display raised around £5,000 for charity last year and this year’s collection will go to Burnham rescue hovercraft charity BARB and PETAL, The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust.
Resident Nick Gardner told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Every year the display is different because we all add to it to ensure it is the best yet.”
“We want lots of people over the entire festive period to come and see us and help raise a good sum for charity – that’s the reason for doing it.”
