School near Burnham-On-Sea awarded £24,000 solar energy funding

-

A school near Burnham-On-Sea is planning to install solar panels worth over £20,000 by the end of the year thanks to a huge grant funding injection.

Brent Knoll School has been awarded funding from EDF Energy and the government’s Low Carbon Building Programme totalling £24,000.

“This will be used to buy photovoltaic panels, which should contribute a substantial amount towards the electricity used at the school,” said a spokesman.

Headteacher Karen Davidson says she hopes the project will help her pupils learn about ‘green’ energy. The panels are expected to be in place by the end of December.

The Low Carbon Buildings Programme provides grants for the installation of environmentally friendly technologies in a range of buildings including households, community organisations, the public, private and non-profit sectors.
