The sport of kite buggying seems to be ‘taking off’ at Brean, with this week’s high winds giving enthusiasts a real challenge.
Around 20 of the sport’s members have braved high winds to take part in a series of endurance competitions and, as these photos show, the gusty conditions proved a challenge.
Alistair McHardy, from the South West Association of Traction Kiting (SWATK), told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There have been some very strong winds, making our competition even more challenging than normal. But we never complain about too much wind – several of our previous competitions here in Brean suffered from too little wind.”
Enthusiasts from across the UK – including Wales, Birmingham and Exeter – have been taking part in endurance races to see who can travel the farthest in a set period of time. Each of the buggy drivers is fitted with a GPS tracking device to accurately measure their distance.
