-

Final rehearsals are underway for a production by Burnham-On-Sea’s ‘Siobhan Johnson Singers’ this weekend.

The group of local singers will perform a line-up of entertaining songs from films and musicals, old and new, called ‘Strictly Come Singning’ this Saturday (28th June) at 7pm in Burnham’s Princess Theatre.

Songs from ‘Les Miserables,’ ‘Jesus Christ Superstar,’ ‘Frozen,’ Evita,’ ‘Hairspray,’ ‘Lion King,’ and ‘My Fair Lady,’ will be among the well-known songs.

The show will include several Highbridge Festival Gold Medal winning soloists, together with Gold Medal winners ‘Burnham Youth Choir’ and the adult Gold Medal Winning choir ‘Burnham On Song.’

There will be 60 singers performing in total alongside special guest cabaret dancers from Burnham dance centre ‘Dancefit’ who will dazzle the audience with their show-stopping routines.

The youngest singer Leah Norton from Brent Knoll School has only recently turned six and will be singing a beautiful and moving version of ‘Part of your World’ from The Little Mermaid.

“This is her first performance for us and she will certainly bring a few tears to the audiences’ eyes!” Siobhan told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“She will also be singing ‘Do you want to build a Snowman’ from the newest Disney film ‘Frozen’ together with Gold Medal Winner ‘Rachel Perry’ and Silver Medallist ‘Lauren Boase.'”

“Dennis Salmon, our oldest singer at 84 years, and again a Gold Medallist from the Highbridge Festival, will charm the ladies with his winning rendition of ‘A Street Where You Live’ from ‘My Fair Lady.’

Tom Llywarch, 15, a seasoned performer and a Gold and Silver Medallist at local festivals will also be exercising his strong baritone voice to a moving performance of ‘Bring Him Home,’ from ‘Les Miserables,’ and ‘Sunset Boulevard.’

Tickets are available from the Princess Theatre, priced at standard seats £8.50 and concessions £5.50. Call 01278 784464 to buy tickets.

“It is a wonderful opportunity to bring all my singers together to perform at and support our local theatre,” added Siobhan.

“All my singers have worked extremely hard this year and even as far back as last September as they have been in constant demand and have performed at local festivals, concerts, charity events and fetes.”

“It has been an extremely successful year with them all and I thank them for all their hard work, time and patience as it takes alot of time and hard work to achieve what they have all achieved this year.”
