20,000 lights switched on at Burnham fundraiser’s home for 11th year

Father Christmas made an appearance when a Burnham-On-Sea resident switched on his spectacular display of 20,000 Christmas lights on Sunday evening (December 4th).

Mike Perrin from Wilde Close has decorated his home with thousands of fairy lights each Christmas for the past 11 years to raise funds for St Margaret’s Hospice.

Over the past decade, he and wife Denice have raised around £6,000 for the charity by collections outside their home.

Mike switched on this year’s impressive display – which covers the whole of the house’s exterior – in front of a crowd of 200 onlookers, friends and neighbours on Sunday evening.

He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A big thank you goes to everyone who came to our switch-on tonight. The crowds seem to get bigger each year – we are very grateful for everyone’s support.”

Barbara Fletcher, local fundraising co-ordinator for the St Margaret’s Hospice, pictured top, thanked the couple during Sunday’s switch-on. “They are both wonderful supporters of our charity and we are very grateful to them,” she said.

The couple’s lights will be illuminated every night from 4.30pm-9.30pm throughout the festive period – right up to January 6th – and are well worth a visit.
