Brean Leisure Park raises over £16,000 for local good causes

-

Brean Leisure Park has raised more than £16,000 for local charities in the past year.

The park’s owners, Richard and Bridget House, this week handed over the money to over a dozen good causes following fundraising events during the busy summer season which have included a golf tournament, pig and donkey racing and fireworks displays.

The golf event raised £1,700 for the Injured Jockeys fund, £300 for St Margaret’s Hospice and £300 for the Alzheimer Society.

The Pig and Donkey Races that took place over the school summer holidays proved to be a great fund-raiser with £3,134 raised for Burnham-On-Sea St Johns Ambulance and another £3,134 for Burnham-On-Sea Sea Cadets.

Holiday Resort Unity Holiday Home Owners raised £1,358 for Children’s Hospice South West.

Funds were also raised for the Alzheimer’s Society and a memory walk along Brean Beach and Brean Down in late September brought in over £500.

And raffles and events over the season organised by The Tavern Country Music Club raised £1,800 for BARB (Burnham Area Rescue Boat), pictured right, £1,800 for Weston Hospice and £1,800 for Cystic Fibrosis. BARB also attended all four firework displays throughout the year to collect funds.

“As the 2011 season is now over, the team at Brean Leisure Park continue to support the local area with the planning of more charity fundraising events to take place in 2012,” said the park’s owner Richard House.
