BMX World Champion’s jerseys raise over £300 at Brent Knoll auction

-

Two signed jerseys worn by Burnham-On-Sea’s BMX world champion Liam Phillips raised hundreds of pounds for charity at an auction on Sunday (June 29th).

Over 100 family members and friends of Chris Evans, a Brent Knoll villager who died nearly two years ago from a progressive lung disease, held a 25-mile cycle marathon during the day, followed by an auction at the village’s Red Cow Inn.

60 riders completed a 25-mile round trip to Catcott and back before the auction and barbecue in aid of the British Lung Foundation.

Liam Phillips’ signed World Championship BMX jersey sold for £200 while his domestic jersey sold for £110.

Liam’s father, Pete Phillips, who lives locally, led the auction and said Liam was happy to give his support to the event.

The Chris Evans Bike Ride and BBQ is in its third year and has raised over £3,000 for the British Lung Foundation.

Organiser Jenny Evans said: “We were delighted with the support shown and thank all those who came along to the barbecue or took part in the ride. It was a great day of weather and we hope to have raised a good sum for the charity.”
