Dozens of anglers lined Burnham-On-Sea’s beach on Sunday (November 9th) for an annual shore fishing competition.
A poor season of catches continued for the anglers who found fewer codling than normal for this time of year.
James Redman, pictured right, landed the winning catch from near the entrance to the River Brue – a codling weighing 1kg 190g.
The heaviest flounder of the day was caught by Ben Simons, 12, of Clevedon. He was delighted to land a fish, pictured below, weighing 785g.
Weston Outcasts organised the four-hour competition and spokesman Steve Moore (pictured at the top of this page) told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There were plenty of small flounders today, but very few codlings which we’d usually expect in November. It has been a poor season so far around the Bristol Channel.”
