Somerset’s Police Crime Commissioner visits Burnham-On-Sea groups

-

Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Sue Mountstevens has visited Burnham-On-Sea during a special community day.

She met with local residents, volunteers, community groups and police cadets during the day, which she holds once a week to meet people across the region.

Her first stop in Burnham was BIARS (Burnham Information and Rescue Support), which operates the town’s tourist information centre, where she heard from volunteers who help run the facilities.

The PCC also visited Burnham’s Coastguard Rescue Station to find out more about how the team help people in difficulty along the local coastline.

And Ms Mountstevens then stopped off at BARB Search & Rescue on The Esplanade where she met several of the volunteers. She said: “My first meeting with the BARB team was during the flooding crisis and I instantly saw how paramount their services are to the local communities of Somerset. I was delighted to be able to meet them at their base and find out more about how they help people on a daily basis.”

She went on to meet Burnham and Highbridhe Mayor Cllr Martin Cox, Town Crier Alistair Murray, Ian Jefferies from BIARS and Sam Nicol, Manager of Burnham’s Princess Theatre.
