More than 100 members and supporters of Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club attended the group’s annual presentation night on Saturday (March 18th).
Hillview Chairman Duncan Britton and founder Mary Nicholson handed out awards and certificates to dozens of members at the town’s BASC clubhouse.
The event recognised their hard work over the past year, which culminated when last year’s space-themed float, called ‘Reach 4 The Stars’, won second place overall in the county juvenile category.
Duncan thanked the club’s members for their “amazing support and dedication”, along with the club’s many supporters and sponsors.
Trophies were presented to the children who performed on the club’s float. Tthe Chairman’s Choice award went jointly to Charmaine Baker and Callum Butt, above.
The other winners were most promising: Ryan Morgan, carnival spirit: Jake White, best girls: Sian Fisher and Lauren James, best boy: Jack Britton, best all-rounder: Jess Buck, best newcomers: Alfie Prosser and Teagan Black, most improved: Lacey and Leah, kids choice: Megan Carpenter, best fundraiser: Charmaine Baker, and co-ordinators choice: Lottie Nicholson.
During the evening, the club also handed over a cheque for £600 to Cancer Research UK, pictured below, taking its overall total raised for the charity to £4,366 since 2008.
Several of the children were also presented with certificates for completing an ASDAN course (Activities and Peer Tutoring Short Course) over the past year. It recognises the wide range of skills they have developed through fundraising and taking part in the carnivals.
The children, pictured below, put together a portfolio including photographs, witness statements, news articles and activity logs to provide evidence of their achievements. Those completing the course were Bradley, Jack, Luke, Lauren, Ryan and Sian.
