Recycling banks to be removed in Burnham as economic downturn bites

-

Paper and card recycling banks are set to be removed from several locations in the Burnham-On-Sea area due to the effects of the economic downturn.

Recycling company Perry’s has said it is removing mixed paper recycling banks at Burnham Holiday Village and at the Seagull Inn in Brean.

It comes after card and paper prices fell from up to £35 per ton in October to less than £1 per ton this month.

Somerset Waste Partnership’s director Steve Read said: “In general, Somerset Waste Partnership is well placed to market Somerset’s recycled materials but the dramatic fall in prices has had a significant impact on commercial recycling companies and Perry’s is no exception.”

“We’ve managed to agree the retention of the majority of recycling bank sites but Perry’s has had to take the decision to remove some that do not cover costs.”

Mixed card and paper banks will be withdrawn from Burnham Holiday Village and the Seagull Inn in Brean.
